SPOKANE, Wash. — Construction is planned to start next week near Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital.
According to the city of Spokane, the Rockwood Boulevard project will fix the pavement and redesign the intersection of Rockwood Boulevard and Cowley Street and 10th Avenue. Outdated water main pipes and a section of the sewer and brick catch basins will also be replaced as part of this work.
Drivers can expect Rockwood Boulevard between Grand Boulevard and Cowley Street to be condensed starting on Tuesday. North/south traffic will be open on Rockwood Boulevard at the Summer Avenue and 10th Avenue intersection.
Summer Avenue and 10th Avenue will be closed between Grand Boulevard and Sherman Street for drivers heading east/west.
9th Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction so people can access the healthcare employee parking garage during construction.
There will be no on-street metered parking available on 9th Avenue between Grand Boulevard and Cowley Street. There will also be no on-street metered parking on Rockwood Boulevard between Grand Boulevard and Cowley Street.
Sidewalk detours may be in place during this construction as well.
The project is expected to be finished in mid-October.
The city asks everyone to slow down and make an extra effort to support businesses impacted by this work.
