SPOKANE, Wash. — Detectives with the Spokane Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating a deadly altercation that left two people dead at the Hart Terrace Apartments near 11th Avenue and Ray Street.
According to police, a man armed with a knife attacked a woman at the Hart Terrace Apartments. Another tenant pulled the woman to safety in a nearby apartment. The man with the knife then stabbed a man near a stairwell, killing him.

Police said the armed man charged at a man walking his dog nearby, and the dog walker pulled out a gun and shot him in what detectives believe was self-defense.
The man with the dog tried life-saving efforts on the man with the knife and the person stabbing near the stairwell, but both died.
“All subjects related to this incident have been accounted for and are cooperating with the investigation,” a police spokesperson said. “All information is preliminary at this point and no arrests have been made.”
The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. when police received numerous 911 calls about the altercation.
Despite efforts by police and emergency personnel, two people died from their injuries.
The names of the deceased will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
