BOUNDARY COUNTY, Idaho — Boundary County is making a change to its non-emergency line due to an influx of abusive calls from unknown numbers.
The Sheriff’s Office says over the past several days, dispatch received around 100 calls of people saying threats, yelling profanity and using derogatory name-calling directed at dispatchers and law enforcement.
Many of those calls have been from blocked numbers or appear to be coming from out of state, making it difficult to track down who has been making the calls.
In response, the sheriff’s office says effective immediately calls from blocked numbers will no longer be accepted on the non-emergency line.
“Our dispatchers work tirelessly to serve the public, and this behavior is unacceptable,” said Sheriff Travis Stolley. “We ask for the community’s cooperation in keeping our non-emergency line clear for those who need assistance. Abusing this line not only disrupts our operations but also impacts our ability to serve those in need.”
The non-emergency line is for reporting non-life-threatening incidents, finding general information or contacting the Sheriff’s Office for non-emergency issues. If you have an emergency, call 911.
