PARADISE ISLAND, Bah. – The No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs are undefeated no more.
A red-hot Javon Small with his 31 points shooting 50% from the field was enough to lift the Mountaineers above the Zags for a massive upset in the first WVU program win over Gonzaga after five losses.
The Bulldogs led 39-31 at halftime and pushed that lead to 10 following the break but then allowed a 12-0 run to get the Mountaineers back into the game.
In the final 30 seconds of regulation, Small missed back-to-back threes, then WVU fouled Ryan Nembhard who made both free throws to take a five-point lead.
Tucker DeVries then drilled a three and forced a turnover to allow two more free throws, tying the game at 71.
The Mountaineers then outscored the Zags 15-7 in the added period.
Gonzaga plays No. 14 Indiana tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
