BOISE, Idaho – Idaho voters are choosing to retain the state’s junior senator, as Republican Jim Risch jumped out to a big lead on election night.
Risch has served in the U.S. Senate since 2009. He has also served as a state senator, lieutenant governor and – briefly – governor.
His closest opponent was Todd Achilles, who was about 30,000 votes behind at 9:30 on election night.
Risch is chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and describes himself as one of the Senate’s most conservative members.
