SPOKANE, Wash. — Pumpkin season has arrived in Spokane, and the Great Pumpkinfest at Brick West Plaza is celebrating the fall harvest while supporting families in need.
The festival runs through the weekend with free admission for all attendees. Visitors can purchase $10 bags and fill them with as many pumpkins as they want, with every dollar raised going directly to SNAP, a program that provides assistance to low-income families.
“Huge gratitude for the event and huge gratitude for our community coming out in a huge amount,” said Karen Pooley, SNAP donor relations.
Beyond pumpkin picking, the festival offers a variety of family activities. A petting zoo features ponies and goats, while a colorful face painting station entertains children. A bouncy house and adult drink station round out the weekend entertainment options.
Attendees are responding positively to the community atmosphere. “Everyone’s so nice and just the animals are fun to be around and it’s just like a good environment in general,” said Savannah Gwynn, an event attendee.
The festivities extend beyond this weekend. The Great Pumpkinfest will continue for the next two weekends with expanded programming. Friday nights will feature line dancing, while Saturday evenings showcase live music performances from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
