SPOKANE, Wash – Parents and students in Spokane Public Schools can now access PowerSchool for grades and attendance, but an overall investigation into a cybersecurity incident is still ongoing.
SPS shut off access to PowerSchool and an employee payment portal when the district was notified by a cybersecurity incident on September 20.
Those systems have been offline as the district brought in a third party investigator.
In an email to families Wednesday, SPS says people can now access PowerSchool, but cautioned that some data may take a few days to synchronize.
“While PowerSchool restoration is an important step in our system recovery, the forensic investigation into the network security incident identified last week remains ongoing,” the district said in the email. “Third-party cybersecurity specialists are working with our team to determine the scope of the incident. This work is complex, and we do not yet have a timeline for when the investigation will be complete. We are taking this investigation very seriously.”
