SPOKANE, Wash. — Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington is easing back-to-school stress for families affected by recent wildfires by distributing 300 free backpacks filled with essential supplies.
The organization began planning the initiative just days after the fires, recognizing the immediate needs of impacted families. The backpacks contain school supplies, hygiene products, headphones, and water bottles.
“We started looking at what are the short term things we can do to get help to families,” said Peg Haun-McEwen, who works at Catholic Charities. “Then we went from there and we are going to continue to roll out events that we think will have an impact.”
The drive-through event runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 18th, at St. Anne’s Family & Children Center, located at 25 E. 5th Ave.
