SPOKANE — While numerous organizations across the country are collecting donations for victims of the Spokane Complex Fire, one local group is taking a hands-on approach to supporting those affected right here in Spokane.
VFW 51 has launched a comprehensive relief effort, collecting a wide range of items needed by fire victims. The organization is gathering clothing, toiletries, and food to distribute to those in need throughout the community.
“We have members here that were affected by the fire…myself included…that very first night this is where I came…and that’s kinda how this whole idea came about of doing donations and being here for our community…because we understand that there is a need and we want to be here for the people no matter what it is,” said Mikal Browell, VFW 51 Junior Vice Commander.
The relief effort reflects the organization’s commitment to supporting its community during a crisis. VFW 51 members describe the initiative as a team effort, recognizing that the fire has impacted not only the broader community but also members of their own organization.
