SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — More than 40,000 Avista customers in the Inland Northwest are being warned of possible Public Safety Power Shutoff this Saturday due to high fire weather.
According to Avista, there are no power shutoffs currently planned, but people should be prepared for the possibility of an outage if weather conditions worsen.
Avista says if power is shut off, it will not turn it back on until the risk has passed and conditions are safe to do so. Depending on how long extreme fire weather lasts, or if repairs are needed, power could be off for longer than 24 hours.
The company says people should plan ahead for the care of your pets and livestock and review your emergency plan to make sure everyone in your family knows what to do if the power goes out.
Customers who could be affected by the power shutoffs will be contacted directly.
