BOISE, Idaho – Violent crime dropped in Idaho from 2024 to 2025, continuing a positive trend over the last several years. One North Idaho community bucked the trend, posting a higher crime rate last year.
The information was released this week as part of the annual Crime in Idaho report.
It shows 4,371 violent crimes in the state in 2025. That’s down from 4,603 in 2024.
Statewide, aggravated assault was the most frequently reported violent crime, making up 75% of those calls. Violent crime peaked in the summer, with 442 violent crimes reported statewide in July.
Broken down by geography, North Idaho is referred to as District 1.
District 1 reported the second-most crimes overall in the state, second only to District 3, which is where Boise is located.
Both District 1 and District 3 reported eight murders in 2025, the most in the state.
Most crime in Idaho happened in a home or residence.
The report also breaks out areas by law enforcement agencies.
In Kootenai County, Post Falls Police is the only agency that reported a rise in crime. Post Falls Police numbers show a 20.38% rise in crime from 2024. That includes both property crime and violent crime.
Post Falls Police report 1,837 offenses in 2025 compared to 1,526 in 2024.
