SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Indians found a way to win another close game Saturday night, rallying past the Everett AquaSox 6-5 in 10 innings at Avista Stadium.
After falling behind 3-0 in the opening inning, Spokane answered immediately. Ethan Hedges crushed a three-run homer to left-center in the bottom of the first to erase the deficit before Jacob Humphrey followed later in the inning with an RBI single to give the Indians a 4-3 lead.
Everett responded with two runs in the fifth, including a solo home run from Josh Caron, to reclaim a 5-4 advantage.
Spokane finally broke through again in the seventh when Hedges delivered once more, lining an RBI single to center to score Roldy Brito and tie the game at five.
Brito continued to impress in just his second game with Spokane after joining the club from Fresno. The Rockies’ No. 3 prospect finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk, consistently finding ways to get on base and spark the offense.
Neither team scored again until extra innings. After the Indians stranded Everett in the top of the 10th, Spokane wasted little time in the bottom half. Tanner Thach reached on a fielding error to put runners on the corners with nobody out before Humphrey hit a comebacker that resulted in a fielder’s choice, allowing Hedges to race home with the winning run.
Hedges finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while Humphrey drove in two runs, including the game-winner.
The victory improves Spokane to 44-45 on the season. Despite sitting one game below .500, the Indians remain in first place in the Northwest League standings and will look to secure the series against Everett on Sunday afternoon.
