SPOKANE, WASH. — The Armenian community gathered Saturday afternoon to celebrate their culture at Spokane’s second annual Armenian Festival, which featured live musical performances, traditional kebab-style food, and cultural vendors.
For event organizers, the festival represents far more than entertainment. It serves as an opportunity to uplift the Armenian people and share their identity with the community.
“A lot of Armenians outside of Armenia have that story that forced them out of historical Armenia so we have a small country still,” said one festival organizer. “The people are stronger than ever, we’re passionate, we love our identity and we want to share it.”
The festival demonstrates growing momentum for the event. Organizers expressed enthusiasm about bringing the celebration back next summer and continuing to share Armenian culture with Spokane residents.
For many Armenian families in Spokane, the festival provided an opportunity to celebrate their roots and introduce younger generations to their cultural identity. For others in the community, it offered a chance to learn about and appreciate Armenian traditions firsthand.
