SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the death of a person whose remains were recovered from Medical Lake on Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 2 p.m. on July 14, 2026, a caller reported seeing what appeared to be a body in the lake.
Deputies responded along with Major Crimes Detectives, Spokane Sheriff’s Forensic Unit personnel and members of the Emergency Operations/Dive Team.
While the investigation remains active, initial information indicates the person’s death was not due to a criminal act, and there is no known threat to the public, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators are continuing their efforts to determine what occurred before the body was found, and the exact cause and manner of death.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the person who died after performing an autopsy and notifying that person’s family.
