SPOKANE, Wash. — Firestone Tires filmed a national commercial in downtown Spokane this weekend.
The production took place at several locations, including The Monroe Street Bridge, Monroe and Riverside, and Stevens and Riverside. Crews used specialized camera equipment attached to cars to capture driving scenes.
Paul Riordan, location manager for the project, said they chose to film in Spokane because of the “city-like” feeling
“We wanted to shoot in something that looks beautiful, in a city that’s not New York. But also not like a small town. We were looking for something kind of midsize,” Riordan said.
Producers say Spokane in the background went well with the theme of the everyday car driving around town.
Local resident Jesse Javana was excited to see Spokane featured nationally.
“Probably not since, like, Macklemore did his music video, it’s like, oh, finally get a little bit more representation. And it’s so pretty. So, I’m glad that they thought this would be the right aesthetic for their commercial,” Javana said.
The production crew staying in Spokane also benefits the cities local economy. The crew occupied 140 hotel rooms this weekend.
“Not only is it just hotel rooms, but it’s food too as well. We’re also hiring quite a few locals too. Which is great. You know, it’s supporting the creative industry here,” Riordan said.
Producers say the national commercial will air in a few months.
