SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Starting Wednesday, cars will no longer be able to pass through part of North Pines Road between Mirabeau Parkway and East Trent Avenue, because crews will be working to finish realignment. They’ll finish paving Pines Road, creating a bigger gap from the train.
While the road is closed, crews will also create a new access point to Trent Elementary School.
The city of Spokane Valley has planned the road work while the school is out of session this week and expects it to be done before school drop off begins Monday morning.
Some who live in Spokane Valley say the constant closures can be overwhelming.
“Everything happened at once so it was hard to get anywhere,” Ginny Knowles said. “Luckily I’m retired so I was scheduling my appointments early in the morning.”
While others say it’s a small price to pay for the major upgrades.
“I think it’s worth waiting for it,” Supida Levi said.
Trent Avenue can still be accessed while Pines Road is closed, but if you’re headed south, you can take University Road or Sullivan Road.
If your family has soccer games to get to this weekend at Plante’s Ferry Sports Complex, you’ll want to use either Sullivan or Argonne Road to avoid the area.
The entire project, which includes the railroad underpass and the nearby roundabout, is expected to be completed by spring of next year.
The estimated $48 million project was paid for by federal and state dollars.
