SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A man was arrested Thursday after leading deputies on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Ryan W. Croson, 36, reached speeds of 100 mph on Interstate 90 before being taken into custody, deputies said. He faces felony charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and attempting to elude police.
The incident began at 5:45 a.m. when a deputy noticed a Volkswagen with fraudulent plates, according to police reports. Croson fled during the traffic stop, driving recklessly without headlights, authorities said.
The chase ended when the deputy performed a PIT maneuver, the sheriff’s office said. Three passengers were released without charges, police said.
One passenger was hospitalized after being struck by debris during the pursuit, according to authorities.
Croson told deputies his girlfriend’s father gave him keys to change the oil, police said. “After no one arrived to get the car, he decided to take it out for a joyride,” according to the police report.
Deputies found suspected methamphetamine during his arrest, the sheriff’s office said.
Croson was booked with bond set at $15,000, according to court records.
