PULLMAN, Wash – On the heels of a tough loss Saturday to Wyoming, Washington State University announced Monday it’s firing defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Jeff Schmedding.
“I appreciate all the hard work that Jeff has had for our program during his two years here in Pullman,” said Coach Jake Dickert in a brief news release. “After evaluating our program, we have not met the standard defensively, and I felt a change was needed for the best interest of the program. I informed Jeff this morning that he will no longer be the defensive coordinator and wish him well in his future.”
Schmedding is a Spokane native and University High School grad who also coached at Eastern Washington University before stops at Boise State and Auburn.
He was named to the defensive coordinator role in January 2023.
WSU finished the regular season 8-4, losing the last three games.
The Cougs are waiting for a bowl game invitation to determine its final game of the season.
