COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — A report of a male with firearms and a bomb in a high school parking lot sent officers from the Coeur d’Alene Police Department rushing to Lake City High School on Wednesday afternoon, but the threat turned out to be false.
Around 1 p.m., the Coeur d’Alene Police Department says someone called, claiming to be a student, and said her boyfriend sent her a message containing photographs of firearms and explosives. The call disconnected before dispatchers could gather more details.
The school resource officer immediately initiated lockdown procedures. Additional officers arrived within a minute, secured the parking lot, and searched both Lake City High School and Coeur d’Alene High School. No suspect or suspicious items were found at either location.
CDAPD says the incident appears to be a case of “swatting,” a growing issue where false threats divert significant law enforcement resources. Two additional swatting calls were received in the Boise area the same day.
“The Coeur d’Alene Police Department takes all threats to schools seriously and investigates each report thoroughly,” the department said in a statement. “The safety and security of students, staff, and the community remain our highest priority.”
There is no information indicating an ongoing threat to either school, according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. The investigation into the source of the call remains ongoing.
