DEER PARK, Wash. — Deer Park mayor Tim Verzal has died, the city of Deer Park announced.
Flags around the city will be lowered to half-staff to honor him for the rest of the week.
Verzal had announced his retirement on September 10 to focus on his declining health.
The City of Deer Park says memorial service details will be announced at a later time.
The city has 90 days from Verzal’s retirement to appoint a new mayor. Those details will be discussed at the city’s upcoming council meeting on Wednesday.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Mayor Tim Verzal. Mayor Verzal cared deeply about Deer Park and the people who call this community home. His commitment to public service, his love for our city, and the relationships he built throughout our community will leave a lasting impact.Beyond his role as Mayor, Tim was a friend, neighbor, and dedicated member of our community. We are grateful for his leadership and for the time, energy, and heart he gave to Deer Park.
