SPOKANE, Wash. — Local musicians are taking the stage this weekend to support their neighbors in need. A two-day music festival organized by Spokane Artists for Change begins tonight at the Spokane Tribe Resort and Casino in Airway Heights, bringing together 50 local artists to raise money for residents affected by the recent Spokane area fires.
The event came together quickly. Spokane Artists for Change began organizing just days after the fires devastated the region.
When local musician Zack Pass learned about the festival, he joined the lineup.
“We all love this town, we love this community, and it’s given back so much to us as independent, small artists,” Pass said.
The artists performing this weekend represent different musical genres, but they share a common purpose: helping fire victims rebuild.
“People need clothes, food, socks. You know, the bare necessities. And so, that costs money,” Pass said. “And so, anything that I can do or we can do to be able to help facilitate those is priceless in my opinion.”
The festival kicks off tonight, with hip hop artists performing until 10 p.m. Tomorrow’s lineup will branch out to include other musical genres, and organizers will add a second stage outside to accommodate more performers and attendees. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow.
All proceeds from the festival will go directly to fire victims. Spokane Artists for Change plans to distribute the funds through a grant program. Applications are expected to open next week, though organizers are still finalizing details about the application process and where residents can apply.
