DEER PARK, Wash. — A single mother of two teenagers is recovering from surgery after a freak accident outside the coffee shop she works at left her with a broken femur, broken pelvis, and torn artery.
Hannah Petty works at Rozy’s Hot Shotz Coffee Stand just off Highway 395 in Deer Park. On Tuesday, she went outside to hang a poster on the side of the building when a wheel from a passing car came bouncing across the field and hit her.
“At the beginning of the month, we put out new signs and she just happened to be the person that chose to put up the signs,” said Jaquie Personius, one of Hannah’s coworkers. “All of a sudden, you hear a boom and then you hear yelling in pain.”
It didn’t take long for people to realize how much damage a runway wheel can do to a person.
“Everybody is trying to come together to support her,” said Kailyn Munro, another one of Hannah’s coworkers. “Everybody’s really worried about her.”
On Thursday, customers stopped by both for their drink and to drop off a donation to help pay for Hannah’s recovery.
“Anyone that gets to meet Hannah is lucky because she’s a great person,” Personius said. “She’s the type that’ll give you the shirt off of her back for you if you need it.”
Hannah posted on social media that her surgery went well and she appreciates all the love and support from the community. She said it’s going to be a long road of recovery.
