SPOKANE, Wash. — People living in parts of northwest Spokane should prepare for possible Public Safety Power Shutoffs Saturday afternoon.
According to Avista, no power shutoff has been ordered at this time. But people living in the Indian Trail area should prepare for the possibility of an outage of weather conditions get worse.
Avista said these shutoffs are to help reduce the risk of fire in the area. If the power does get shut off, Avista says it will not turn it back on until the risk has passed and it is safe to do so.
People should plan for an extended outage, make sure everyone in your home knows what to do if the power goes out, and keep monitoring Avista for the updates on the outage.
If you have a backup generator, Avista says to do a safety check and make sure you have enough fuel to last several days. If you rely on uninterrupted power for your health and safety or need help, additional support may be available.
Avista says if power is shut off, it will work to turn services back on as soon as it is safe to do so.
