MOSES LAKE, Wash – The Moses Lake School District has reached a settlement with Design West Architects over the construction of Groff Elementary School.
Students had to be moved out of Groff Elementary in 2025 because of repeated problems that included electrical issues, mechanical failures, roof problems and structural concerns.
Students were bused to other elementary schools.
The district sued Fowler Construction, who was the contractor, and Design West. The case against Fowler is ongoing.
“This settlement represents an important step forward for our District and our community,” said Superintendent Carol Lewis in a news release announcing the settlement. “Receiving $1.85 million will help offset the remediation costs at Groff while allowing us to remain focused on what matters: providing safe, high-quality learning and working environments for our students and staff. We appreciate the collaborative efforts that made this resolution possible and remain committed to being good stewards of our taxpayers’ investment.”
Construction crews have spent the last year working to update Groff. The district began moving back into the school this week.
