SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho — Firefighters finished constructing a fire line around the entire perimeter of the Gold Run Fire, marking a major milestone in efforts to bring the blaze under control, according to the Idaho Department of Lands. Crews will continue securing those lines while monitoring for hot spots.
The Highwater Road between Elizabeth Park and Big Creek — including all of Country Club Road — remains closed to all traffic. Fire officials are urging the public to stay out of the area so crews can safely carry out suppression operations.
The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes is expected to reopen to pedestrian traffic Friday morning. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
The Idaho Department of Lands holds protection responsibility for the fire.
Cooperating agencies include the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Wildland Fire Service, Bureau of Land Management, Silver Valley Fire Rescue, Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office and Avista.
