SPOKANE, Wash. — Investigators suspect arson in an early-morning house fire that displaced six adults Saturday, according to the Spokane Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the intersection of West Maxwell Avenue and North Lincoln Street after reports of a home’s exterior on fire and found heavy flames extending into the second floor and attic, officials said.
Police initially advised that one person might still be inside, prompting firefighters to conduct an aggressive interior search, officials said. Crews later determined all occupants had evacuated on their own.
The fire caused significant heat and smoke damage to the residence, fire officials said. A neighboring home sustained minor exterior heat damage.
Fire officials said the blaze was incendiary in nature and remains under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department’s Special Investigations Unit and the Spokane Police Department.
No injuries were reported and the Red Cross was contacted for assistance, according to authorities.
