SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane man has been sentenced to more than 22 years in prison for charges received during a home invasion.
On Friday, 42-year-old Dustin D. Walter was sentenced to 269.5 months in prison for assault, burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm charges.
Court documents show that in December of 2024, Walter and a woman, 33-year-old Kayela S. Nielsen, went to a house in Northwest Spokane to confront a man who Nielsen accused of stealing her drugs.
Walter and Nielsen forced their way into the home, shoving one person into the bathroom and threatening others inside the home with a gun.
When officers arrived, the victim in the bathroom had injuries to his head, which the victim said happened when Walter pistol-whipped him. A bullet hole was also found in the victim’s hoodie.
During Walter’s sentencing hearing, one of the victims who was threatened told the judge about the lasting effects the whole incident had on her.
The Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office says Walter has a significant criminal history, including 11 felony convictions.
In October of 2025, Nielsen pleaded guilty for her involvement in the incident. She was sentenced to 57 months for assault, burglary and unlawful imprisonment.
