SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A man was arrested Monday evening after a three-hour standoff at a Spokane Valley apartment complex, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeffrey B. Hanson, 57, was arrested Monday after he had threatened to force a violent encounter with law enforcement, deputies said.
The incident began at 4 p.m. when deputies responded to a welfare check at an apartment complex in East 3rd Avenue and South Pierce Road, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies learned Hanson was in crisis and had made statements about forcing a deadly encounter with police.
The situation escalated when a victim reported Hanson pointed a pistol at him, deputies said. Deputies requested assistance from the SWAT team and a crisis negotiator.
Following hours of negotiations, Hanson voluntarily exited his apartment at 7:10 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies recovered 12 firearms, two air rifles, several holsters, and large amounts of ammunition from his residence.
Hanson was booked into Spokane County Jail on felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor weapons charges, deputies said.
