Spokane, WASH. — Spokane Police say a sexual assault suspect that left the area was arrested in Connecticut.
SPD’s Special Victims Unit (SVU) began an investigation in July into 42-year-old Ryan M. Cheek for ‘allegations of rape by a male romantically involved with a female.’ Police say they obtained video evidence that corroborates the victim’s claims, and other video that shows Cheek exposing himself to a young girl at the same home.
On December 11th, an arrest warrant was issued for Cheek on eight counts. They include two counts of 2nd Degree Rape regarding the adult victim and counts of 1st Degree Child Molestation and Indecent Exposure in regard to the juvenile victim.
SVU was provided with information that Cheek left the Spokane area when he learned of the investigation. SPD believed Cheek had likely returned to his home state of Connecticut. SPD partnered with the U.S. Marshals Service, and on the 16th they took Cheek into custody.
SPD says in the coming weeks, SVU Detectives will travel to Connecticut to assist in Cheek’s extradition to Spokane to face charges.
