COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — A Coeur d’Alene man with an extensive criminal history was arrested Thursday after police discovered a pipe bomb, several firearms and illegal drugs during a routine probation check at his home.
Shawn Allen Cline, 52, was taken into custody at his residence in the 1900 block of W. Fairway Drive after the Coeur d’Alene Police Community Action Team and Idaho Probation and Parole officers found the explosive device and weapons during their visit.
The Spokane Bomb Squad confirmed the pipe bomb was an active explosive device and safely rendered it inert. Officers also located several firearms, including a homemade “slam fire” shotgun, along with methamphetamine and marijuana.
Cline was booked into the Kootenai County Jail on charges including possession of an explosive device, three counts of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and an agent’s warrant.
Cline has an extensive criminal history with multiple prior weapons-related offenses in both Idaho and California. He is an admitted former gang member and was on felony probation for firearms violations at the time of his arrest.
The incident highlights the ongoing collaboration between the Coeur d’Alene Police Community Action Team and Idaho Probation and Parole to monitor offenders and ensure accountability through routine home visits.
Police emphasized the critical role played by the Spokane Bomb Squad in safely handling the dangerous situation and protecting both law enforcement officers and the surrounding community.
