KOOTENAI COUNTY, IDAHO –The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says a 55-year-old man was hit and killed by a tree that fell onto his home on the 100 block of Theis Lane in the Village of Fernan.
Deputies responded to a tree hitting a house around 6 a.m. in the village of Fernan just east of Coeur d’Alene.
KCSO says the tree struck the home, injuring one person and trapping others inside. They say the man was hit by the tree while he was sleeping in bed. Other people in the home were safely rescued without serious injury.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents that during wind events, they are encouraged to stay away from large trees, avoid sleeping near exterior walls when possible, and report hazardous conditions to local authorities. If conditions appear unsafe, call 911.
