SEATTLE, Wash. – Governor Bob Ferguson amended his emergency proclamation Tuesday to provide swift emergency support as historic flooding continues to impact 14 Washington counties.
The amendment activates state assistance programs and directs $3.5 million in emergency funds toward relief and recovery efforts. State officials are working with FEMA to apply for a Major Disaster Declaration.
“Our state is in the middle of a historic crisis, and it remains unpredictable,” Ferguson said. “We are not in the clear yet and Washingtonians must remain vigilant to stay safe.”
Emergency responders have conducted more than 1,200 rescues and evacuations across more than 10 counties.
Thousands of Washington residents remained under evacuation orders Tuesday morning, with more expected over the next 48 hours.
The Washington State Department of Transportation has reopened more than 60 roads with National Guard assistance.
However, 13 state highways remained closed, including State Route 2 and Highway 12 northwest of Yakima.
Approximately 250 National Guard soldiers remain deployed for emergency response.
