CHENEY, Wash. — A false report of a shooting near a local school prompted a multi-agency response and temporary lockdown Wednesday morning, according to the Cheney Police Department.
Officers responded at approximately 9:32 a.m. to a report of a shooting near the intersection of in the Gregory Drive and South Presley Drive, near a school.
According to Cheney PD, school officials placed the facility on lockdown while officers secured and searched the area. Additional resources were called to the scene, including SWAT teams and medical personnel.
After a thorough investigation, officers determined no evidence of a shooting existed. The lockdown was lifted, and police confirmed there is no threat to the public or students and staff.
Cheney Police Department detectives are actively investigating the false report.
The investigation remains active, and police indicated no additional information will be released at this time.
