NORTHPORT, Wash – More fire crews will arrive Monday to help fight new fires burning near the U.S./Canada border.
The Crown Creek and Blackhawk Mountain fires are burning in heavy timber near Northport. Lightning sparked both fires over the weekend.
The larger fire, the Crown Creek fire, has burned more than 1,400 acres, which is the equivalent of about two square miles.
Fire managers say both fires have the potential for rapid growth, which could expand evacuation areas.
Monday, crews planned to monitor the potential for growth and continue structure protection plans.
Additional resources are expected throughout the day to help the more than 500 people that have already responded.
Crews expect the fire to grow as the weather warms up over the next several days.
