CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — A man drowned in a remote mountain lake in The Enchantments wilderness area on Sunday, according to Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 7:15 p.m. on August 3, RiverCom received a satellite text alert about a 30-year-old man on the west side of Lake Colchuck who had been underwater for five minutes and was not breathing.
CCSO said the man was part of a hiking group and another hiking group stopped to assist with CPR.
Due to the remote location of the emergency, a helicopter with paramedics was dispatched, along with on-the-ground Chelan County Volunteer Search and Rescue crews.
The helicopter arrived around 8:45 p.m. and airlifted the man to the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery, where paramedics were standing by.
Despite the hikers performing CPR for over an hour while waiting for paramedics, the man did not survive.
