PULLMAN, Wash. — A Pullman man has been sentenced to life in prison for the rape of a child.
According to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office, 33-year-old Lane Hunting Smith was sentenced to four counts of rape of a child. Hunting Smith’s earliest possible release date will be in 2049.
Hunting Smith is also required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
“What this man did is despicable and indefensible, he abused the trust of not only Jane Doe, who saw him as a father figure, but her entire family as well. What he did to that child is unforgivable.” Scholl said.
The Prosecutor’s Office also said there is a lifetime sexual assault protection order in place for the victim.
