DEER PARK, Wash. — A 15-year-old convicted felon was arrested for burglary and other recent crimes that happened in Deer Park.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement served a search warrant for the teen on May 13 due to his suspected involvement with multiple crimes in Deer Park.
These included a burglary on May 5, where two teen males broke a window to enter a business. The pair stole cash, vapes, cigars, iced tea and beer while causing hundreds of dollars in damages.
The teen was also believed to be responsible for a shooting that happened in the early morning hours of May 7 on East B Street. Deputies found three separate bullet holes in the victim’s car at that time.
Investigators developed probable cause to connect the burglary with the shooting and were granted a search warrant for the teen’s home near East Crawford Street and South Weber Road.
The 15-year-old had been previously convicted of assault on law enforcement and burglary. When deputies arrived with the search warrant on May 13, he would not follow their commands.
The Sheriff’s Office said the teen eventually left his home with his cell phone in hand and flipped off the deputies.
Deputies told the teen he was not free to leave and he was under arrest. The suspect then turned and ran from law enforcement.
Because the suspect didn’t have a weapon in his hands and his age, deputies decided not to use force to stop him. Instead, the teen ran right where additional deputies were waiting.
The teen then surrendered and was taken into custody.
He was booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for commercial burglary, malicious mischief, theft and obstructing law enforcement.
Detectives were able to find several vape pens and the clothing believed to have been worn during the burglary in the suspect’s room.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests or charges are possible.
