SPOKANE, Wash. — An event focused on criminal justice reform and mental health is coming to Gonzaga’s campus on Friday.
On May 16, Hello for Good, a nonprofit that helps Spokanites with addiction recovery, housing and education, will host its 7th annual Spring Symposium: ‘The Criminal Justice System and Mental Illness.’
The event will feature speaker Judge Steven Leifman, retired Associate Administrative Judge of Miami-Dade County Court. His work focuses on criminal justice reform and has been honored by Pope Francis and Chief Justice John Roberts.
During the symposium, Judge Leifman will share insights into how systemic failures have led to the over-incarceration of people struggling with mental illness.
The event is free and open to the public. It will take place in Gonzaga’s Hemmingson Ballroom, 702 E. Desmet.
Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and the event begins at 8 a.m. Breakfast will be served.
