SPOKANE, Wash. — A recent study shows a significant child care shortage in Spokane’s University District.
More than half of children living in the district don’t have child care. The problem is most severe for families with infants.
The study found 70% of respondents believe there’s a high need for a child care center in the neighborhood. Many parents report cutting back work hours or taking fewer classes to care for their children.
The University District conducted this study to determine if child care was needed and what programs would work best for the neighborhood.
