SPOKANE, Wash. – The newest Gonzaga Bulldog didn’t have to go far from home to play for her childhood team.
Teryn Gardner returns to Spokane after a standout high school career at Mead took her to Boise State to compete in the Mountain West, where she played in over 30 games and averaged over 13 minutes per game as a true freshman last season.
She entered the transfer portal and went right to the team she’s called home her whole life.
“It’s always been my dream to play there, and so, ever since I was a little girl, I grew up going to Zag games, and my grandparents were season ticket holders for women’s basketball. It’s just always been a dream, I’m glad to finally make that dream come true, and that definitely was a pulling factor, it was always in the back of my mind like ‘oh what would it be like if I was at Gonzaga’. And so, I’m excited for it.”
Gardner also spoke on her parents’ and grandparents’ excitement for the move, now needing a half-hour drive to games instead of over six hours.
“They were super excited, it was always my dream, but I think it was always theirs too. So, I think my parents are just over-the-moon happy for it, and so excited I’ll be playing 30 minutes away. My grandma’s wish, she was like ‘Oh my wish came true, I’m so happy, I’m so excited,” and so everybody’s just… the support I’ve gotten is amazing, and everybody’s so excited.”
Gardner is one of two incoming transfers to the Zags, joining Zervhia Aokuso from rival Saint Mary’s.
