NEWMAN LAKE, Wash. — A man died in a car crash on North Idaho Road, south of Trent Avenue on Friday, according to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 5 p.m. on April 25, SCSO Deputies and Liberty Lake Police officers responded to a reported crash on North Idaho Road.
Callers said the driver of one of the involved cars had been ejected and that his Chevy was on fire.
When deputies and officers arrived, they learned an Infiniti, driven by a man with a young passenger, was driving north on N. Idaho Road, followed by several cars.
The Infiniti slowed down to prepare to make a left-hand turn, prompting the cars behind to also slow down.
The Chevy, attempting to pass the slowing cars, drove into the southbound, oncoming lane.
As the Infiniti began to turn left, it crashed into the fast-moving Chevy driving in the oncoming lane.
The Chevy left the road, crashed head-on into a tree and rolled, causing the driver to be ejected.
Members of the public at the scene attempted CPR on the Chevy driver before law enforcement arrived.
The Chevy driver was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Infiniti stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. SCSO said he showed no signs of impairment and neither he, nor the minor passenger, were injured.
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
