SPOKANE, Wash. — Families in need can pick up free winter coats next week at the West Central Community Center, as part of the annual “Coats 4 Kids” drive.
Fall is ending, and temperatures are dropping. The West Central Community Center is ready to help residents stay warm.
The 200 coats now on display have been washed, placed on hangers and zipped up. Staff and volunteers are waiting for families to claim them next week.
The West Central Community Center has been a longtime partner in Coats 4 Kids and distributes hundreds of coats annually.
Rachel Moore, assistant manager of administration and reception at the West Central Community Center, said the need is growing as the weather turns.
“It’s getting cold. It’s freezing at night,” Moore said. “I know it’s still technically fall, but it’s getting cold. And people need support, and people need coats. And we’re just really grateful to be here and be able to support in that way.”
The center serves both kids and adults through a variety of programs. Moore said the coat drive reaches people who need it most.
“We’re honored to be able to give and support and partner with other organizations who are able to bring something as simple as a coat — but it means a lot to people who need it,” Moore said.
