SPOKANE, Wash. — If you get a call from someone claiming to be the Marshal for the Eastern District of Washington, the United States Marshals Service said it’s likely a scam.
According to USMS, people have been receiving calls lately from someone claiming to be Marshal Craig Thayer. The scammer will say there is an active warrant for their arrest because of identity theft. The scammer will then ask you to pay a fine to have this warrant cancelled.
USMS said it will never ask for credit, debit or gift card numbers, wire transfers, bank routing numbers or to make Bitcoin deposits for any reason.
If you receive a call like this, report it to your local Marshals Office and to the Federal Trade Commission. Your call can stay anonymous.
