The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation is launching a new reservation system to help ensure fair and equal access to the state’s most sought-after group camping areas.
On Monday, IDPR is launching a lottery reservation system for Lionhead Group Camp at Priest Lake State Park and Group Camps 100 and 101 at Bear Lake State Park.
IDPR says demand for these sites has exceeded availability in recent years, with sites booking out within minutes. It says this approach will give all applicants the chance to secure a reservation regardless of internet speed or timing.
The lottery application will be open March 31 through April 15. It covers stay dates between May 22 and September 2.
In the application, you can put both a primary and secondary date range. The minimum stay is two nights while the maximum is one week.
If the dates you select are only partially available, IDPR says it may offer adjusted dates.
There is a $25 nonrefundable application fee. Selected applicants must sign a reservation contract and pay for the full stay once notified they won.
If someone cancels, the stay will be awarded to the next customer drawn in the lottery.
