SPOKANE, Wash. — The local nonprofit Our Place Community Outreach helped provide Christmas Gifts to over 170 families who might have otherwise gone without on Tuesday.
With Christmas being just eight days away, Our Place held its annual holiday giveaway to help families who may be struggling this holiday season.
“He works two jobs, I work one job. We’re still struggling to make ends meet,” said Jamey and Jonathan Bagby.
The Bagbys are exactly why Our Place has held this holiday giveaway for the past 20 years. It gives people in our community an opportunity to “love on their families in a way that finances might not allow them.”
Our Place filled an entire gym with donated gifts, giving the Bagbys and other families much to chose from, whether it be clothes, stocking stuffers or something else.
“The things that we can get here are nice things and they’re things that they’d be happy with,” they said. “That helps a lot, where we can buy a bunch of stuff for but we’re doing other things, paying bills.”
The Bagbys also brought their brother they recently started helping who moved to the are from Wisconsin. He has three young children and was able to get Christmas gifts for all of them.
“Events like this are reasons why Christmas still goes on,” said Demetris Hodge, who picked up clothes and toys for his kids. “For families that don’t have and unfortunate families that cannot give or get.”
It isn’t just the little kids who got presents either. Project Beauty Share made gift bags with items like facial cleansers, lip gloss and more.
Our Place relies heavily on donations to provide for local families all year long. For more information on the nonprofit, click here.
