SPOKANE, Wash. – As of Monday morning, Washington State’s star quarterback John Mateer has entered the transfer portal and will look to play football in another program next season.
Mateer is a redshirt sophomore who just completed his first college season as a starter after sitting behind former Cougar quarterback Cameron Ward for two seasons.
In Mateer’s 2024 campaign, he threw for over 3,000 yards and accounted for 44 passing and rushing touchdowns to lead the Cougs to an 8-4 regular season record.
Washington State is set to face Syracuse in the Holiday Bowl on December 27. With Mateer in the portal, he will not play in the bowl game.
This is a developing story.
