SPOKANE, Wash. — A man accused of child molestation and rape made his first appearance in court Monday morning.
56-year-old Elisha Marsh was arrested Saturday by Spokane Police. He was accused of molesting and raping a child under the age of 12.
In an affidavit of facts filed with Spokane County Superior Court, the child’s father called police to report seeing the child on top of Marsh while Marsh’s underwear were pulled down, and his genitals were exposed. Upon walking in on that scene, Marsh rushed to cover up, and walked outside to have a cigarette, ignoring the child’s father’s questions about what he had seen.
The child was examined at the hospital and interviewed by detectives. According to the affidavit, detectives learned of accusations of sexual contact happening between Marsh and the child for about a year. The child told detectives that Marsh would say that, if people found out, “it would ruin everything.”
Marsh was being held on $500,000 bail. Commissioner Eugene Cruz upheld the bail amount Monday.
