SPOKANE, Wash. — Downtown Spokane certainly has its issues right now with homelessness, drugs and crime. But could the key to breathing new life into downtown lie within its historic past?
4 News Now’s Derek Deis spoke with local developers who believe downtown is worth saving and that a big step in its revitalization could come in renovating some very old buildings.
We’ll show you what’s being done to the Wharton Building on West 1st Avenue and how developers believe bringing more residential units to downtown will make the area more vibrant and in turn, safer.
We’ll also explain how one developer is leveraging tax incentives and credits, including a rebate from Washington’s new Commercial Building Conservation program, to make it more cost-effective.
