SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash – Crime scene tape was just removed after 24 hours on a south Spokane County home where 4 people have died as a result of a shooting Tuesday afternoon. Among those who have died are a shooter and one Spokane County Sheriff deputy. Another deputy is on life support.
The house is on Smythe Road north of the town of Spangle. It sits about a half mile off Highway 195 and was the scene of a chaotic shooting.
Deputies first came to the home around 3 pm when a woman called from a neighbor’s house and said her brother shot her. Deputies arrived and found one woman dead outside but could not find the gunman.
When they tried to breach the door, they were met with gunfire and two deputies were hit. They were transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition. As of Wednesday at noon, deputy vehicles and an honor guard could be seen outside the hospital.
Investigators ultimately found two more people dead in the home, including the shooter.
At the home Wednesday, 4 News Now reporters could see several law enforcement officers and the forensics team. Windows on one side of the house had been shot out.
Sheriff John Nowels said Tuesday night he didn’t have a lot of answers yet about what happened that led up to the shooting.
When reached Wednesday morning, the medical examiner’s office said they had not yet been called to the scene, so none of the names of those killed have been released.
