SPOKANE, Wash. — There is still time to submit your ballot for the midterm election in Washington.
Elections officials are reminding people to get their ballots in before 8 p.m. on Election Day. While it may be too late to send in the ballot through the Postal Service, you can still take them to an official drop box.
“If you must use the Postal Service, walk it into the post office and have it handed in,” said Spokane County auditor Vicky Dalton.
As of this weekend, voter turnout in Spokane County is at 37%. Dalton expects the final number to be closer to 60 or 65%.
There will be only one batch of results released Tuesday night. As the counting continues, updates will be made nightly through the end of the week on VoteWA.gov and on the Spokane County Elections homepage.
“Usually by Friday after Election day, the vast majority of the ballots are in and have been tabulated,” Dalton said.
Even though the ballots are due by 8 p.m. on November 3, results will not be officially certified until November 24.
Dalton says you should expect the initial results posted on Tuesday to change as more ballots are counted in the following days.
“There’s always that handful that arrive a little late but have good postmarks,” she explains. “Then, of course, all those folks who forgot to sign their envelopes or the signature doesn’t match.”
If you get notified that your ballot is missing a signature or your signature does not match, you will have until November 23 to resolve the issue.
If you need a replacement ballot or to register to vote, there are two voter service centers available: one at the Spokane County Fairgrounds and the other at CenterPlace in Spokane Valley. Both locations will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
